Contractor, born at Mumbai in India, was raised in Nigeria up until she turned seven. She was already exposed to many different travels and other cultures since a young age. From the age of seven to nine, the young lady went to boarding school in London. Her family moved to Toronto and she resided there for most of her childhood. Then, in Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics, and was trained to become a classical ballerina. Contractor began her acting career at 16, following nearly 10 years in dance. After she completed high school, she was offered a full scholarship for tuition to University of Toronto where she was a theatre student with a dual degrees in Sociology and Psychology. Contractor was offered the leading role in Pericles after a one-year stint in University. The audition was held for it during the Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and was awarded. The year 2002 was a great one for her. Canadian theater critics were awed by her performance in 92 productions of the play. Contractor was given the chance to take part in the conservatory program, where a select eight men and four women are accepted to take a crash course of 20 weeks on the classical stage that she gladly accepted. Contractor received a guaranteed spot in the next season of plays and landed the role in the role of Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
